Start your claim online

If you want to write to us, our address is Royal London Group, 22 Haymarket Yards, Edinburgh, EH12 5BH.

We’ll need to see medical information to support any claim. All diagnoses must be:

  • The first and confirmed diagnosis of the critical illness and,
  • Made by a consultant who is a specialist in the relevant are of medicine and who is employed at a hospital within one of the countries listed in your plan details.

What to expect

We’ll tell you the name of the person handling your claim and they’ll stay with you throughout the process.

As soon as we have all the information we’ve asked for and your claim’s been accepted, we make the payment, and funds usually clear in 3-5 working days.

Helping Hand

When a claim is made on your Royal London plan, we’ll arrange a dedicated RedArc nurse to call to see if they can help the person making the claim. They’ll be able to give practical help and advice and also offer bereavement counselling.

We are allowed to share this information under Data Protection as w are providing a medical service however, there is an opt out option on the claim form.

Using this service doesn’t cost any extra and calls wont be discussed with Royal London.

What else?

Please carry on paying your plan premiums for the time being. We’ll let you know if its OK to stop. If you have any worries or concerns in the meantime, talk to the person dealing with your claim.

WHAT TO EXPECT

What we’ll need from you

We’ll need you to send us a copy of the death certificate when you have it. There are a few ways to do this.

  • Email a copy to mailbox.estates@scottishwidows.co.uk
  • Take it in to a Lloyds Bank, Halifax or Bank of Scotland branch
  • Send a copy to us at the address below. We recommend you use guaranteed or recorded delivery. We’ll need an original copy, or one certified by a Lloyds Bank, Halifax or Bank of Scotland colleague or a solicitor.

What happens next

We’ll update our systems and arrange for all marketing to stop.

We may need some extra information before we can close a product or account, for example:

  • if the person who has died has left a will, we may ask you to provide a copy
  • if we need a grant of probate, letters of administration (England and Wales) or confirmation (Scotland). These are court-appointed documents that identify the people who have the legal right to deal with the estate of the person who has died. We’ll let you know if we need this when we first speak with you.

We’ll get in touch to let you know once we have everything, we’ll handle the rest and keep you informed during the process.

Support

We’ve produced a bereavement support leaflet (PDF, 91KB) with information on other things you may need to consider. This includes a jargon buster, which we hope you’ll find useful.

Please contact us if you would like a braille, large print or audio version of this document.
